Princess Charlotte is going above and beyond to look after her mum as she undergoes treatment for cancer.
The Princess of Wales has been keeping a low profile this year while she receives chemotherapy for an unspecified form of cancer, leaving many royal fans wondering how she and the family have been getting on. Behind the scenes, the children have been helping out whenever they can. Experts believe that Princess Charlotte in particular is doing everything she can to help mum.
Royal expert and author Ingrid Seward told Hello! that the “protective” nine-year-old princess is “taking care” of Kate. Seward, who analysed the duo’s body language at the Trooping the Colour Parade, explained: “I think that Charlotte is really taking care of her mum. It was quite sweet the way she stood in front of her and they kept chatting. Charlotte seems to be very full of admiration for her mother, which I think is a lovely thing, too.”
She added: “Kate and Charlotte are great friends and I think to Kate, their bond is very precious. The mother-daughter relationship is obviously particularly important to Kate because she has such a close relationship with her own mother, Carole Middleton.”
At the parade, Princess Charlotte was seen making an adorable gesture of support to her mum. Kate’s three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis appeared beside their mum at the Trooping the Colour event on June 15. The family rode into the King’s birthday celebration in a carriage, but due to rainy weather their windows had steamed up, meaning they were unable to wave to the adoring crowds outside. Mother and daughter took to cleaning the windows so they could greet the royal fans.
But at one point, Kate – who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer – stops wiping. Her dutiful daughter continues and cleans up the carriage’s main window for the two of them. Charlotte’s attention wasn’t just on the window as she had to take responsibility for her cheeky little brother, Prince Louis, too. At several points, nine-year-old Charlotte would dart a glance at Louis to make sure he was behaving.
Speaking on the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast, Kate previously explained how she incorporates her family’s traditions into her parenting. She said: “I had an amazing Granny who devoted a lot of time to us—playing with us, doing arts and crafts, and going to the greenhouse to do gardening, and cooking with us—and I try and incorporate a lot of the experiences that she gave us at the time into the experiences that I give my children now.”
