There’s no denying that Princess Charlotte has a knack for taking charge when it comes to her brothers, Prince George and Prince Louis. Her natural leadership means she often steps into a key role during royal events.
Charlotte, the middle child of William and Kate, clearly takes the lead among the Wales siblings, especially with her youngest brother Louis. Christopher Anderson, author of The King, even calls her the “Louis-whisperer” of the family. “Charlotte is best at keeping her lively little brother in line when Louis—like many youngest children—acts up to get attention,” he told Fox News Digital.
A prime example of this was at the 2024 Trooping the Colour, a significant event for the family as it marked Kate’s first public appearance since sharing her cancer diagnosis. While Louis entertained the crowd with his playful antics, Charlotte was seen quietly reminding him to behave during the National Anthem, showing her protective and responsible side.
Body language expert Judi James also highlighted Charlotte’s composure during major royal events. At King Charles’ Coronation celebrations, Charlotte demonstrated her leadership again, guiding Louis during the ceremony and even overseeing George’s behavior at the Coronation concert.
According to Judi, Charlotte’s perfect curtsy and attentive gestures revealed her growing confidence in her royal role. During the concert, she encouraged George to use his flag correctly and ensured everyone noticed when their dad, Prince William, took the stage.
“It’s clear Charlotte takes her role as royal prefect seriously,” Judi told the Mirror. “She even stood up, enthusiastically pointing her flag at William and urging George to pay attention when he wasn’t reacting enough.”
Charlotte’s “big sister” duties can be demanding. After the Coronation, Prince William shared that Charlotte was “very tired” from her responsibilities, opting for a quiet day at home. But while Charlotte occasionally steps in to scold her brothers, her love for them shines through. Sophie Mirman, founder of the British childrenswear brand Trotters, told PEOPLE how Charlotte is incredibly protective of Louis, and their bond has been evident since he was a baby.
For Charlotte’s third birthday, a sweet photo showed her cradling a baby Louis, planting a gentle kiss on his head. At Louis’ christening in 2018, while others smiled for the camera, Charlotte’s focus was solely on her baby brother, holding his hand with obvious pride.
The connection goes both ways. Proud dad William once shared how Louis looks up to Charlotte, especially during their lively mornings at home. “Charlotte runs around the kitchen in her dresses and ballet outfits, going completely wild, and Louis is right behind her, trying to copy everything she does,” William said.
Charlotte’s leadership and loving bond with her brothers continue to make her an integral part of the Wales family dynamic, whether at home or on the royal stage.
